The Slovenian Parliament has requested a referendum on a newly adopted Family Code, which brought more equality to same-sex couples. The request came after pressure from right wing groups who managed to collect more than 25,000 signatures in two days

The European Parliament joined the United Nations’ call for safeguarding the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the world. The text was co-signed by 6 out of 7 political groups, and adopted with a very wide majority.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has published a booklet entitled 'Working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & intersex persons on forced displacement'.

Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg, made a strong comment on how important it is to focus on LGBTphobic bullying in a school environment.

FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY & ASSOCIATION

The Pride event in Belgrade has received strong international support but at the same time there is increasing internal pressure on the organisers to cancel the Pride march due to high security risk. Organisers insist that the Pride march will not be cancelled. Right wing groups are organising a number of counter demonstrations. ILGA-Europe will be present and will closely monitor the Pride march.

ILGA-Europe is an associated partner of a new project about hate crime called Facing Facts! This project will explore different types of hate/bias violence and propose new common advocacy and policy tools building on various networks' experiences.

As part of its programme of work to encourage the use of strategic litigation to promote LGBTI rights in Europe, ILGA-Europe is holding a one-day training session on litigation in the field of the rights of trans people, in association with Transgender Europe.

The David Kato Vision & Voice Award will be awarded annually, on Human Rights Day (10 December), to an individual who demonstrates courage and outstanding leadership in advocating for the sexual rights of LGBTI people, particularly in environments where these individuals face continued rejection, marginalisation, isolation and persecution. ILGA-Europe is a part of the advisory committee.
