2021- Request for financial support to attend the Gathering Online
Submit a request for financial support to attend the Gathering Online 2021 by 12 September 2021 at 23:59!
ILGA-Europe launches the submission of requests for financial support to cover security and access costs for attendees of the Gathering Online 2021.
At ILGA-Europe we acknowledge that LGBTI activists in Europe and Central Asia can encounter limitations in accessing online spaces, either due to security concerns or economic barriers. We aspire to make the Gathering Online 2021 more accessible by covering some of the costs associated with obtaining secure internet access in a safe environment for LGBTI activists within the ILGA-Europe region.
Because our resources are limited, we will not be able to fund the attendance of all participants – this financial support is limited to those who would not be able to attend the event without it. In July, we will assess requests received, and respond to them to the best of our capacity.
What we can offer
We encourage you to search for alternative ways of making your participation in the Gathering Online possible. For example, connecting from a friend’s house or renting a space from which different people from your organisation can connect.
ILGA-Europe can cover 2 types of costs linked to the participation in the Gathering Online (based on what is allowed by our own funding sources). These are:
- Cost related to internet access: It can include a phone data package, increase of internet bandwidth or a VPN subscription for the duration of the event. We understand that in some cases it may not be possible to increase internet bandwidth or buy a VPN connection for just a few days and you should be paying for a whole month. If there is no cheaper way of obtaining it, we will cover such cost.
- Cost related to obtaining a secure location from where to connect: This can include booking a hotel room or apartment for the duration of the event (not an entire month of rent).
How will we prioritise who we will support?
- We are committed to prioritising requests coming from LGBTI activists representing LGBTI organisations who have no other means or possibilities of obtaining access to the internet or to a secure physical space.
- Enabling the presence of under-represented communities: we are committed to prioritise requests coming from members of communities that have been under-represented or marginalized within the LGBTI movement.
- Activists representing an organisation or group based in Europe or Central Asia: Given ILGA-Europe’s mandate and geographic focus, only LGBTI activists in Europe and Central Asia region will be considered for support
- Only one representative per organisation: In cases where there is more than one request from one organisation that fulfils the assessment parameters we will only be able to cover one of them.
